Momus is a Greek fast food restaurant in Mexico City, Mexico. Serving up classic street food like gyros and fries, the brand had to stand out from the long list of restaurants in the same category. The team at TBP created an identity that’s rooted in classic Greek-inspired elements with pops of modern.
Using blue and white for a Greek restaurant is pretty expected. However, the team at The Branding People make up for this with a brand identity that’s anything but expected. Fresh, fun illustrated doodles of the food, ingredients and a classic Grecian culminate to create a visual language that’s upbeat and fun. These are offset by a strong, bold typeface that’s impossible to miss.
The layouts meld the two otherwise conflicting styles wonderfully with an overprint style where big, bold, and modern typography sits overtop the illustration. The result is powerful.
Some notable elements that struck me as unique involve introducing acrylic material in key areas like the sandwich board sign and the table number signs. It’s a brilliant use of an otherwise “cheap” material.
