Greenspace, and Colophon’s, work for The OWO hotel is a clear reminder of how important and powerful typography and discerning materials curation can build a luxury brand.
The OWO can be found in the Old War Office in London. It’s a multi-use building that’s primarily a hotel, but also features residences. It’s elegant, gorgeous, and powerful as a building, and the teams’ work for the identity simply pushes that even further.
Taking inspiration from early 20th century typography design and styles, the Greenspace team collaborated with Colophon to create not just a typeface, but a full family and visual language based upon typography. Every aspect of the brand is built with the custom typography, named 1906 for the year the building was built. The only deviation from this is the introduction of a pattern comprised of morse code that communicates the exact geographic coordinates of the hotel. How clever.
Spanning every touchpoint available from signage and wayfinding to packaging and amenities, the brand creates a calm confidence that serves as the epitome of luxury. It’s truly fantastic work.
