Collage work can come in all shapes and sizes from pooling together a visual narrative using metaphors to expressing emotions. It’s quite challenging to create uniformity across collage work without anchoring oneself to a particular set of principles and parameters, however. Maybe it’s a color palette or approach to color intensity. Or it could be filters that create continuity across the various pieces of the collage. Without these mechanics, collage work series become disjointed. This is not the case for Beppe Conti’s collage artwork for Rabbit Hole Distilling’s label suite.
Each label in the suite conjures up emotions derived from the spirit itself and the brand as a core, using famous Shakespeare plays as the basis for the creative exploration. Leveraging vintage imagery sources and a grainy aesthetic, Conti creates surrealist visuals that marry nicely as a series, but stand on their own to communicate something unique about the individual product’s Shakespearian muse.
Some of my favorites are A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo with the anthropomorphized donkey and Juliet with the anatomical heart and floral elements.
