A lot of classic Italian design styles fall into two camps: the ultra vintage style of stucco textures and aged papers and type, or the Art Deco beauty of Vespas and modern typography. Fratelli Rosso falls into that second category with a bit of the first to add some vintage flavor.
Art Deco style typography leads the charge in this wine branding and identity design. With beautifully simple “S” letterforms and highly geometric adherence, the typography creates a whimsical vibe that’s a stark contrast from most of the serious wines on the shelf.
Red “blobs” take a center role in the visual hierarchy and it only takes a moment to understand why. They’re representation of spinning wine in a glass to open up the nose and flavor. While clever on their own, they’re uplifted with a vintage illustration touch that utilizes a classic linocut style. The subject matter is the roots of wine making creating a beautiful narrative that merges the whimsy, authentic, and modern.
