This sushi bar in Barcelona has a brand identity takes inspiration from the food to an all new level. Using the shapes of chop sticks and rolls (circles), designer Andres Requena created a refreshingly remarkable custom typeface that’s eye catching and creative without impeding on readability too much.
The typeface for the brand challenges the viewer with the unexpected. Because of it’s unique look, it’s effectively used as the defining characteristic of the brand’s multiple touchpoints from menus through signage and into uniforming and beyond. Set in extra large size across these touchpoints make the the typography shine and defines the brand and fresh and unique.
The menu systems employ an embossed feature which helps the typography take on new admiration in how it performs even in a subtle touch like this finishing technique. The designer intelligently deviates from the type’s usage in smaller type needs like pricing, categorization, and body copy. For this they introduce a serif type which breaks up the strong modernism created by the custom type.
Overall, this is incredibly refreshing and new making me want to visit Knahia next time I find myself in Barcelona.
